ABOUT TAX ATTORNEYS
About Tax Attorneys
A tax attorney is a lawyer who focuses on tax matters. That sounds simple, but it covers a lot of ground. Some tax attorneys spend most of their time on tax planning — structuring transactions, entities, and benefits so clients pay the lowest legal amount of tax. Others spend most of their time on tax controversy — representing taxpayers in IRS audits, IRS appeals, IRS collections, and tax litigation. Many of us do both.
This page is a starting point for the most common questions we get about tax attorneys: what they do, how they differ from CPAs and enrolled agents, how they get trained, what they charge, and how to find a good one. Each topic below links to a longer article that goes into more detail.
If you do not want to read through the whole series and just want to talk to a Houston tax attorney about your situation, call us at (713) 909-4906 or schedule a free consultation.
We get a lot of questions about what a tax attorney does, what it is like to be a tax attorney, etc. We put together this series of pages to address these questions.
